Renovating or Designing Your Dream Home: Exciting, Yet Overwhelming – Here’s How to Navigate the Costs
Every home renovation step requires careful planning, from choosing the right materials to coordinating with contractors. At D3X Studio, we believe a well-executed renovation begins with a clear roadmap—covering everything from the initial design phase to project completion. In this article, we’ll walk you through the key stages of a renovation, explore the associated costs, and demonstrate how we can help bring your vision to life.
Planning and Interior Design: The Foundation of Your Renovation
Before any building work begins, the planning and interior design process sets the foundation for a successful renovation. This stage is crucial because it helps define your space’s layout, functionality, and style.
Why the Planning Phase Matters?
Many homeowners focus on the building work first, but successful renovations and interior designs start with thorough planning. Investing in a detailed design phase ensures that your space is tailored to your lifestyle and that the construction process proceeds smoothly. This upfront work helps you avoid costly mistakes; the results will speak for themselves.
Interior Design
Interior design is not just about selecting furniture; it’s about creating a space that reflects your personality, maximises your space, and meets your needs. Our design process begins with understanding and transforming your vision into a detailed, functional plan. We offer both bespoke interior design services and fixed-price packages, giving you clarity, confidence, and creativity from start to finish.
All of our design packages include:

Optional add-ons: 3D Renderings
Visualising your design before work begins is one of the most exciting parts of the process. Our high-quality 3D renderings bring your ideas to life, allowing you to experience your future space with clarity and confidence.
We base our 3D rendering fees on the size of your space, offering fair and transparent pricing for the time and detail involved.
£20 per m² for the first view, including:
- A custom-built 3D model of your room
- Design styling with furniture, finishes, and lighting
- One high-quality render
- Up to 3 rounds of edits
£15 per m² for each additional view, covering:
- Extra perspectives (e.g. opposite angles or close-ups)
- Lighting and camera adjustments using the same model
Example: A 5m × 3m room (15 m²) would cost £300 for the first render (15 m² × £20) and £225 for each additional view (15 m² × £15).
Project Management
Once the design is finalised, it’s time to move on to the project execution phase. This is where our project management services come in. Managing a renovation involves coordinating numerous elements, from contractors to suppliers, and our experienced team ensures everything runs smoothly. We provide the following services:
- Liaising with Suppliers and Vendors: We take care of sourcing and coordinating with suppliers to ensure the timely delivery of materials, furniture, and fixtures.
- Purchasing and Tracking Deliveries: We handle the purchasing and tracking of deliveries, so you don’t have to worry about delays or forgotten items.
- Contractor Management: We oversee the contractors, subcontractors, and labour teams, ensuring that all work is completed on schedule and within budget.
- Quality Control and Inspections: Throughout the renovation, we conduct regular site visits to ensure the work is progressing as planned and up to our high standards.
- Client Communication and Updates: We inform you every step of the way, with regular updates on the project’s progress, timelines, and any adjustments needed.
- Final Handover and Post-Project Support: Once the renovation is complete, we want to ensure everything is finished to your satisfaction and provide post-project support for any follow-up needs.
We align our project management fees with your renovation’s size and complexity, ensuring pricing clarity. This ensures that the level of coordination and oversight required matches the size and complexity of the work. Here’s a breakdown:
- For Projects up to 100m²: £5000
This package is ideal for small flat renovations, and it includes coordination with contractors, suppliers, vendors, site inspections, quality control, and regular project updates.
- For Projects Between 100m² and 200m²: £8500
This is suited for medium to large-sized renovations, such as larger apartments or houses. The package offers everything in the smaller project management package, plus added support for managing more contractors, larger teams, and increased logistical complexity.
- For Projects Over 200m²: Custom Pricing
We provide a tailored pricing structure for large-scale renovations, multi-story homes, or commercial projects based on your project’s complexity and specific needs. After an initial assessment, we’ll give an accurate estimate.
Renovation Costs (Labour Only)
Once the planning and design phases are complete, the building work begins. The cost for builders generally ranges from £400 to £750 per square meter, depending on factors such as the complexity of the renovation and the scope of work. This price includes:
- Labour: The skilled tradespeople who carry out the construction, including tilers, fitters, electricians, plumbers, and other specialists.
- First-Fix Materials (the hidden essentials): These materials are used during the early stages of construction, including framing, electrical wiring, and plumbing.
- Rubbish Removal: Removing waste and debris generated during the renovation process.
Remember that second-fix materials (the visible details: paint, fixtures, doors, tiles, etc.) and items like your kitchen, appliances, bathroom fixtures, etc., are not included in this price range and must be purchased separately.
